Andy Kilpatrick
Career Background
Eighteen years experience of secondary headship,
leading three schools – King Richard School
Portsmouth, Brighton Hill Community College,
Basingstoke and currently Northumberland Park
Community School, Tottenham.
Key Responsibilities
To change the fortunes of Northumberland Park
Community School which was facing serious problems
of attainment and popularity. The school has
increased the percentage of students achieving
5+ A*-C grades at GCSE from 19% in 2003 to 49%
in 2005 and will be oversubscribed with first
choice applicants for Year 7 places in 2006.
Key Achievements
Andy took on the headship of King Richard School
in 1988 when it had zero 5+ A*-C attainment at
GCSE and falling numbers with fewer than 500
students on roll. By 1994 the 5+ A*-C measure
had risen to 36%, one of the highest for inner
city Portsmouth, and the school was fully subscribed.
In 1994, Brighton Hill School was experiencing
falling rolls and 30% of students were achieving
5+ A*-C grades at GCSE. By 2004, Brighton Hill
Community College had a 76% 5+ A*-C pass rate
(the highest of 9 schools in Basingstoke), it
was over subscribed having increased its role
from 900 to 1300, with waiting lists in each
year group despite the town having 1300 surplus
secondary school places.
During 1970 Andy had a number of papers published
in psychological journals.
